A Keygloo Number is a label for the public key of a key pair.
A key pair is a pair of very long numbers generated to assist you in encrypting and decrypting your files. Your key pair is generated when you ask for a Keygloo Number during installation of Keygloo.
One of the long numbers is called the public key and the other is called the private key. The public key can be made known to everybody and is used in the encryption operation of a message. This key is labelled using a short 10-digit number called Keygloo Number so that it will be easy to exchange between communicating parties by word of mouth, phone, email or business cards.
A message encrypted with a public key can be decrypted only using the corresponding private key. Hence the private key should be kept a secret.

Your Keygloo profile is a file that contains your Keygloo Number and that of your friends. When you use your friend's Keygloo Number the first time, it gets stored in the profile. It is similar to an address book, but contains Keygloo Numbers instead of email IDs.
Keygloo by default also stores the private key (decryption key) inside your profile. The profile file name will be 'YourKeyglooNumber.kgf' (e.g. if your Keygloo Number is '3040506070' the file name will be '3040506070.kgf'. You can alternately remove the private key from the profile using the Keygloo manager. If you do so, then the private key will go to a seperate file named 'YourKeyglooNumber.kgp'.
The default location of the profile file will be C:\Program Files\Keygloo\. However, you have the option of storing this file in any folder convenient to you at the time of installation. Remember the location where store the profile.
Keygloo will ask you for your profile location during encryption if such information is not available to Keygloo. This can happen when:
a. This is the first time you are using Keygloo from this computer.
b. You have moved the Keygloo profile to a different folder.
After providing the profile location, you can continue with the encryption operation.
Your profile file will have the icon |

Your private key by default will be stored into your profile file itself <YourKeyglooNumber.kgf>. If you travel often, you may want to carry this file in a removable storage media such as floppy disk, thumb drive etc.
Keygloo also allows you the option of storing your private key into a seperate file. You can do this using the Keygloo Manager. If you are seperating your private key from your profile, then, the name of the private key file will be <YourKeyglooNumber.kgp> (e.g. if your Keygloo Number is '3040506070', then the file name will be '3040506070.kgp'.
Your private file will have the icon

Your private key file is the only file necessary to decrypt your messages. If this key falls in the hands of other people, they will also be able to decrypt your messages.
So Keygloo protects your private key file with a password that will be known only to you.
During installation, Keygloo will ask you if you want to provide a password of your own or use a default password. It is advisable to choose a password of your own.

Keygloo recoganizes a primary user as the owner of the computer. Keygloo provides certain privileges to primary users which include right clicking directly on a file and encrypting it. This convenience is not given to secondary users.
If you are not the owner of the computer where you are installing Keygloo and yet want to be the primary user, you can choose to be the primary user by installing Keygloo from a different login than the one used by the owner. Alternately, if the owner of the computer permits, you can choose to import your profile as the primary user using the Keygloo Manager.
By default, Keygloo will import you as the primary user if this is the first time you are getting a Keygloo number. If you are getting a second Keygloo number, then that number will become the secondary user. Further Keygloo numbers imported into the system will replace the secondary user. |

| You can encrypt e-mails even if you do not have a Keygloo Number. However, the recipients should necessarily have a Keygloo Number and you should also have Keygloo installed in your system. Also, the e-mail will not be encrypted to yourself thus preventing you from decrypting the e-mail at a later time from your 'sent' mailbox. To work around this, you can add yourself as one of the recipients of the e-mail. |
